Chevy Traverse: The Family Sweet Spot

Got three kids? Regularly bring grandparents or friends along? The Traverse deserves your attention.

Everything you need and nothing you don’t. The Traverse gives you three rows without moving all the way up to a full-size SUV. Current models seat up to eight and still offer a lot of cargo room, which gives you a good idea of why the Traverse has long appealed to families.

This may be one of the best Chevy SUVs for families who need real passenger space but don’t want Tahoe-sized everything.

The important part? Actually test the third row. Put the front seats where you normally sit. Bring the kids if you can. A third row that looks fine in photos often feels very different once everybody piles in.

Chevy Tahoe: When You Need More Muscle

The Tahoe starts making sense when your family needs passenger room, cargo capability, and the utility of a full-size SUV.

Current Tahoes offer three rows, seating for up to nine depending on configuration, and up to 122.7 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. Used models will vary by year, of course.

Consider the Tahoe if you regularly tow, take long family trips, carry lots of gear, or simply need more space than a midsize SUV gives you.

The tradeoff? It’s bigger. Parking takes more thought, and you’re moving more vehicle around every day. Not to mention the gas bill.

Chevy Suburban: Bring Everybody and Their Stuff

If the Tahoe still wasn’t big enough, there’s something even bigger. And the Suburban is that big one.

If your problem isn’t just seating people but also finding somewhere for everyone’s luggage, sports equipment, coolers, and whatever else follows a family around, the Suburban is your choice. Current models offer three rows and seating for up to nine depending on configuration.

But be honest with yourself. For many buyers it’s more SUV than they need. Don’t buy huge just because huge sounds great.
