Upcoming: The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Safety & Tech Features
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 shows that there’s always room for improvement, even when you have one of the best full-size pickup trucks to date. The latest Silverado features plenty of noteworthy changes on top of a healthy roster of engine, trim, cab, and bed configurations. Needless to say, savvy truck buyers will find themselves impressed with Chevy’s latest full-size offering.
What’s New for 2022
For starters, the 2022 Silverado gets a thoroughly revamped interior with a multitude of exquisite features, including an available console-mounted electronic transmission range selector. But the biggest changes lie with the heavy-hitting infotainment and information options available. For 2022, the Silverado gives drivers an optional 12.3-inch Driver Information Center along with a massive 13.4-inch touch screen display. These changes accompany a redesigned dashboard, available on the LT trims and up, with a more luxurious look and feel. Buyers also get improved materials throughout the cabin.
Meanwhile, redesigned headlights grace the 2022 Silverado’s updated front fascia and grille. The re-tweaked fascia also sees the turn signals integrated into the daytime running lights, which also gain an animated lighting sequence on LT trims and higher.
The 2022 Silverado 1500 also earns a new trim level: the ZR2. Like the Colorado ZR2, the Silverado ZR2 also flexes its off-roading chops with a host of terrain-conquering goodies, including advanced Multimatic spool-valve dampers.
What hasn’t changed for 2022, however, is the Silverado’s powerful and efficient engine lineup. The venerable 4.3-liter V6 remains the full-size pickup truck’s base motor with 285 horsepower on tap. Next up is the turbocharged 2.7-liter I4, which earns a bump up to 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The 5.3-liter remains the mainstay V8 option with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque on tap. At the top of the stack is the 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. For diesel lovers, there’s the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel with an impressive 460 pound-feet of torque available.

Available Models
The WT serves as the most basic version of the Silverado 1500, geared towards tradesmen and fleet owners. For ordinary truck buyers, however, the Custom trim represents the true start of the Silverado hierarchy. The Custom comes well-equipped with features like available OnStar and SiriusXM radio and the EZ Lift power lock and release tailgate, along with your choice of the 4.3-liter or 2.7-liter turbo engines.
The LT trim offers a more luxurious interior, plus the availability of the 5.3-liter V8 engine. The RST puts a sportier spin on the Silverado with monochromatic exterior trim and other touches elsewhere. The LTZ adds standard leather seats along with a heads-up display, among other options.
The unique Trail Boss, available in Custom and LT forms, ditches the Silverado’s standard front end with one offering a more compact bumper. The Trail Boss also boasts a 2-inch factory suspension lift, along with an automatic locking rear differential and 18-inch wheels fitted with mud-terrain tires. The result is a full-size pickup truck with more clearance and a steeper approach angle for tackling rough terrain.
The aforementioned ZR2 one-ups the Trail Boss with more ground clearance, Multimatic dampers, an enhanced 2-speed transfer case with Terrain Mode, and unique front and rear bumpers with even steeper approach and departure angles. Other distinguishing features include ZR2-specific wheel opening moldings, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory® mud-terrain tires, unique skid plates, and distinctive interior décor.
At the top of the mountain lies the High Country, hands-down the most luxurious of the Silverado trims. Chevrolet’s top truck offering gets even better with the inclusion of Super Cruise. With this hands-free driver assistance technology, drivers can reduce their risk of fatigue on over 200,000 miles of compatible roads. Drivers can use Super Cruise even when pulling a trailer.
Safety Matters
For 2022, the Silverado 1500 features an impressive list of safety and driver-assistive technologies, including an assortment of towing and trailering assists. The major safety tech features, however, include:
- Forward collision alert
- Automatic braking
- Lane keep assist with lane departure warning
- Following distance indicator
- Front pedestrian braking
- Intellibeam high-beam assist
These features come as part of the standard Chevy Safety Assist suite. Optional safety technologies include adaptive cruise control and the High Country-exclusive Super Cruise feature.
